Flemish public broadcaster VRT is building a new 65,000 m² headquarters in the future Mediapark on Reyerslaan in Brussels. The VRT Morgen consortium, which includes Willemen Construct, Jan De Nul and various architectural and engineering firms, began in November 2022. The construction will take four years. The building remains on the current site and consists of two stacked volumes: an octagonal base with a lobby, event space, television studios and logistics areas, and above it three floors with large, open work floors. The design promotes collaboration and responds flexibly to the evolution of media. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
Sustainability is key. The fossil-free building has a well-insulated shell, heat pumps, 2,300 m² of solar panels, and retains as many trees as possible. Five interior gardens and surrounding green spaces make it a natural, inspiring workplace.
Winlock will install seven fireproof gates there with 60-minute fire resistance, with WIPO application and Noise Lock up to 47dB.
Thank you, Willemen!
