Future Project: imec, Leuven

Interuniversitair Micro-Electronica Centrum VZW (imec) is an independent research institute focusing on microelectronics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, design methodologies and ICT technologies. Imec was founded in 1984 as part of an initiative by the first Flemish government to stimulate the microelectronics industry in Flanders. At the time, it was known as the Interuniversity Micro-Electronics Center, abbreviated as IMEC. Since 2016, only the name “imec” has been used. Its founding led to significant investment on the KU Leuven campus, with the involvement of research groups from other Flemish universities. Meanwhile, imec has global collaborations with universities and electronics companies.

The Leuven campus of imec employs more than 2,000 people. In addition, imec has branches in Ghent, Antwerp and Genk, among others, as well as in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Hsinchu in Taiwan, Shanghai in China and Bangalore in India. Representatives also operate in San Francisco, USA, and Tokyo, Japan. In its 40 years of existence, imec has become the world’s top microchip research center, as the world’s chip lab. All leading technology companies come together at imec to partner in research programs to develop the next generation of chip technologies.

Winlock will install five fire-resistant doors with 60-minute fire resistance (Ei1 60) on the Leuven campus.

Thank you, imec!
